The Housing First Minnesota Foundation is partnering with Bravo Zulu House to help construct the nation's first sober living home designed specifically for women veterans recovering from PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), and substance use disorders. Expected to open in 2027, the home will provide safe, dignified, trauma-informed housing that supports women as they transition from treatment to long-term recovery. Building on our successful partnership to complete Bravo Zulu House's men's home, the Foundation will mobilize Minnesota's residential construction industry by engaging suppliers and trade partners to provide support. Additionally, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation will provide financial support towards construction on the project. Through this collaborative model, HFMF will help reduce construction costs while expanding access to a first-of-its-kind housing resource that addresses a significant gap in services for women veterans.
The Bravo Zulu Women's House will provide 10 beds for women veterans recovering from PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), and substance use disorders. Because residents can remain in the program for as long as they need to support their recovery, the length of stay for a veteran will vary based on individual circumstances. While the home will maintain a capacity of 10 residents at any given time, there will be turnover as women move into permanent housing and independent living. The program is expected to serve approximately 15–20 women veterans annually. By providing stable, trauma-informed housing without time limits, Bravo Zulu House will ensure each resident can build a strong foundation for long-term recovery while creating ongoing opportunities to serve additional women veterans as beds become available. This project builds upon the successful partnership between HFMF and Bravo Zulu House on the organization's first project—the nation's first all-military sober home for male veterans with PTSD in Winnebago, Minnesota. In 2025, HFMF partnered with Bravo Zulu House and Build Partner APX Construction Group by providing financial support for construction and leveraging our network of residential homebuilding experts—suppliers, manufacturers and trade professionals to help complete the project. Through our industry relationships, we connected Bravo Zulu House with skilled trade partners and construction resources that helped bring this groundbreaking facility to completion. Bravo Zulu Women's House will serve veterans from across Minnesota, and currently there are no post-treatment sober living facilities in the country designed specifically to address the unique challenges of women veterans living with PTSD and military sexual trauma. This project fills a critical gap in the continuum of care while advancing the Housing First Minnesota Foundation's mission to partner to build safe, dignified housing for Minnesotans in need.
