Housing First Minnesota Foundation Transformative Opportunity
Housing for Heroes Veteran Village
Veteran Village Project
We will be breaking ground on the first-ever multi-unit complex supportive of veterans and their families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Building Veteran Village allows our partnership to make the biggest impact yet on Minnesota’s journey of progress toward effectively ending veteran homelessness statewide. We are asking for your consideration to invest in this transformational project that has significant impact on Minnesotan veterans now AND in the future.
Project Timeline: Spring 2025 – Winter 2025 | Construction Budget: $5 Million
History
In 2017, Housing First Minnesota Foundation established our Housing for Heroes community build projects in partnership with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), our build partner Lennar, and philanthropy partner Lennar Foundation. Over the course of our partnership, the Housing First MN Foundation has built 39,500 sq. ft. of supportive veteran housing, providing veterans a place to call home as they rebuild their lives.

2024 Veteran Village
Fundraising Campaign
The Housing First Minnesota Foundation, led by the housing industry and a $500,000 matching grant from the Lennar Foundation, has raised nearly $1.5 million in support of our Housing for Heroes Veteran Village! This initial fundraising success, completed in 2024, has allowed us to begin construction on the Veteran Village in spring 2025! THANK YOU to all who play a role in this historical movement. Your support allows the Foundation to continue the Housing for Heroes partnership until we reach our goal of ending veteran homelessness in Minnesota.
Lennar and The Lennar Foundation are generously supporting another $500,000 dollar for dollar matching donation challenge, meaning every dollar donated to the Veteran Village general donation fund will be DOUBLED up to $500,000
How you can help.
Help support us in this historical movement. Building a Veteran Village requires all of us to do our part — to invest our time, talent, and treasure to make this happen. Our association and Foundation board members; large-volume, mid-volume, and small-volume builders; Artisan and custom homebuilders; remodelers; suppliers; developers; and other associate members each have a role in making this happen.
Your support will allow the Housing First Minnesota Foundation to continue the Housing for Heroes partnership until our goal of seeing veteran homelessness in Minnesota reaches functional zero. That means that “homeless” and “veteran” will never be in the same sentence again.

Housing For Heroes program impact:
Currently, there are nearly 300 veterans experiencing homelessness in Minnesota.
Our Housing for Heroes program, in partnership with MACV, builds transitional and supportive housing for veterans and their families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Together, we've built 14 homes totaling over 39,500 sq. ft. of dignified housing.
Each year, we build homes that can provide housing for four individuals or a family in need.
We are currently in the process of finalizing a Housing for Heroes home in St. Paul, and our Veteran Village plans to break ground in Spring 2025.
In 2024, we helped build three new homes for veterans in need. These homes will provide up to 10 more beds.
Please consider supporting this historical fundraising endeavor to help us raise over $2.5 million.
Once the Veteran Village is completed, Minnesota will be ready to declare the effective end of veteran homelessness. While it doesn’t mean that no veteran will ever face homelessness, it signifies that there will be a process and resources to ensure housing for any veteran in need.
The Veteran Village, with its 22 homes, will be able to provide shelter to approximately 36 veterans and veteran family members. Achieving the effective end of veteran homelessness has been the goal of the Housing for Heroes partnership, and we eagerly await the announcement of this milestone!
Throughout our fundraising campaigns, we have achieved major milestones, and we are so grateful for the support shown thus far! But, to make the Veteran Village a reality, we have many more milestones to go. Thank you to all those who have contributed to the cause.
